Take a Break

Take a Break are running a survey to see what readers think of the summer special. All entries go into a draw to win £200. There's also the chance to add a comment. If you'd like to see lots of lovely fiction in the magazine, don't forget to say so!

What do you think - should there be more fiction in our magazines? Or would you rather read about celebrities love lifes? How about in magazines for children and teenagers?

I'm afraid that link isn't working for me, Patsy.

Aaargh! Technology!!! (or maybe it's my fault) I think it's OK now?

Great,it works now. Thanks

Dream it, then do it said...

My wife dropped some of her mags because they were turning more and more to celebrity stories. She now only has Take-a-Break and is upset that they've cut out the fiction.

Less Cheryl Cole PLEASE!! Enough of her. Enough. Seriously. No more. What she does IS NOT NEWS. Or news worthy. Or worthy.

Ahem.

Short stories - yes please - that's why I love my My Weekly more so than Woman's Weekly - cos of the variety of writers and stories. And they get the mixture of fashion, health, recipes and features that I like just right!

I think most mags for young people are fashion ones like Look and More. Do they have fiction?? They should!!!

Take care

Keith, I think lots of people miss fiction in the mags and stop buying them, but the editors don't know why they're losing customers so give us yet more Katie Price and Cheryl Cole.

Kitty, I don't know of any mags for young people which feature short stories. I agree they should.

Can there ever be too much fiction? Anywhere?

It's funny, because I help organise the student newspaper at my school and the girls have asked if fiction can go in. I've said yes, of course. I do think there could be more fiction in magazines. I remember Playboy published original Ian Fleming Bond short stories in the 60s. It's a shame other mags, such as GQ or Esquire don't include more fiction. It has to be good fiction, not just filler.

All done.

I wonder if they will see the names of those who ask for more fiction and recognize them as the ones that fill their slush piles every month?

Patsy said...

No, Linda I don't think there can.

It's good to know your students enjoy fiction, Gypsy King. I quite agree the quality has to be good, not just the quantity.

Probably not, Gail. I suspect there are thousands of us.

Hi Patsy,
My favourite magazine used to be My Weekly, but since they only take stories from regular published writers, I don't buy it any more. I've switched to People's Friend and Woman's Weekly. I should write and tell them, maybe they wouldn't care?

Filled in the survey - lots of questions before finally a box where I could request more fiction.

Patsy said...

Suzy, if you write to the mags you do buy and say it's because of the fiction, it might encourage them to keep it.

Yes, lots of questions, Sally. I hope they take notice of the answers - or at least, of the answers saying 'more fiction, please'.

I filled it in and then chickened out and submitted without leaving my details. Just wanted them to know I like fiction, not bothered about winning anything. Let's see if anyone takes any notice at all!

Celia, if they upped the amount of fiction published we'd all be winners!
