I'm having a pretty good writing year so far. The policy I implemented towards the end of last year, of actually having a go at the competitions and opportunities I blog about, is paying off. I've had a couple of acceptances, including one with Take A break, written a fair few new works and signed up for interesting events.I also have a story published here. They're still open to submissions (as are Waterhouse Review where this story was first published)
Here's a chance to win a rather weird looking book, here's a short story competition with a £15,000 prize and here's one for poetry (there are several other writing competitions on the site, but I think they're for members only)

Oh Patsy!! I was reading your story and thinking - I have read this, I have!! Deja vu!! So yay that I have done so before. Phew!! LOL!! Oh it's a good un - so dystopian but oh so poignant and poetic - lovely!!
I love your bio on the Bent Masses site: "She doesn't have any cats" - I want to add "But she does have The Sphere"!
:-)
Yay for your wonderful writerly year so far - lots more fab stuff to come for you!!
Take care
x
Congratulations on your successes so far this year, a good way to start!
Well done, great news :0)
And, as always, thank you for the links.

Yes, Kitty I have The Sphere. As we're away from home so much I can't have a pet that requires feeding and other care - luckily he's happy with being abandoned in the garage, even if he does occassionally escape and post things on here.
Thanks, Annalisa.
Thank you, Suzanne.
Good on you, and well done Patsy x
Good work! Thanks for the link. :)
Brilliant story, Patsy. You have come a long way, well done!
Great start, Patsy - and thank you for the links x
Thanks, Diane.
Thank you, Rachel.
Ah, well I've had plenty of help, Anne!
Cheers, Teresa.
Patsy, that story is just amazing. You must be so proud.
A good start to the year, Patsy - I've been sending things out too. Thnaks for the links - I'll go back and read your story later as I couldn't get through just now.
Congratulations, Patsy. A great start to 2012. And thanks for the link. £15k for a short story?! Wow! That's the equivalent of approx 1500 womag stories or, in other words, about 30 years work! (If I've done my sums right.)
Oh, congrats on all your success so far! May it continue throughout the whole year. :)
Aaw, thanks, Sarah. Not my usual sort of thing, but I am quite pleased with it.
Glad to hear you're getting stuff out, Rosemary. Best of luck with it.
Gail, however you do the sums it's a lot of money for one story.
Thank you, Linda.
Congratulations on your acceptances Patsy, you get better by the day, week, year, well done. Thanks for the links, and your creative blog.
Wow, that's wonderful news. I have done some contests and they have always worked for me. It also helps it makes writers step out of their comfort zone.
Very inspiring - congratulations. I'm going to try some poetry comps this year... no, make that, I WILL enter some poetry comps.
Well done Patsy and I'm sure you'll keep it up.
Thanks for the tip about the comments box. I deleted all comments from last post and it let me put a fresh one on, but won't let me in again. I'll just keep trying. Perhaps a new post will solve the problem.
Its all about having a plan ahead of time. Good luck to you. I'm thinking big thoughts for a really great year!
Congrats on a great start!
Aaaw, thanks, Suzie. I do try to keep improving.
Clarissa, you're right about the comfort zone. I've written things for competitions I'd never have tried otherwise. Good to hear you've done well with competitions.
Chris, as you definitely will, I'll do my best to find you some interesting ones to try.
Thanks, Maggie. Hope you get it sorted soon.
Stephen, I try to plan but it's not my strong point! I hope this year really is great for you - your positive attitude should be a good start.
Thanks, Margo.
I've never tried a competition or anything else like that. I'm too focused on getting an agent. Would be nice to try though.
Nancy, winning a writing competition or two probably isn't something that's likely to scare agents away.
Fantastic! Congratulations!
Thank you, Maxi.
I was just looking for this info for a while. After 6 hours of continuous Googleing, at last I got it in your web site. I wonder what's the lack of Google strategy that don't rank this type of informative websites in top of the list. Normally the top websites are full of garbage.
