All castled out*

I've been away Castle spotting and didn't have as much internet access as I'd expected. It made me realise how much time I usually spend online ... still, let's not dwell on that. As well as visiting lots of castles, looking at quite a few ferries (and travelling on one) and eating and drinking (only slightly to excess) I did get quite a bit of writing done.

Maybe it was due to the peace and quiet - well, it was quiet except for the thunder and hailstorms. They're really dramatic in a campervan on the edge of a cliff ...

Talking of quiet, Here's a competition you might like.

Sorry if you had trouble reading the proofreading post a few days ago. I still can't work out what the problem was so will post it again later - hopefully minus whatever the snag was.

*not really! We only saw nine which is nowhere near too many.

btw, not all the pictures are of castles. We visited churches and cathedrals too.

  2. Lovely photos, Patsy.
The middle right building looks familiar- did you visit Kent?

(And I can see this post okay- the previous two I couldn't.)

    1. Yes, they're in Kent, Carol. Award yourself a bunch of points.

Still haven't worked out what went wrong with the postings. It's most odd.

    2. The picture that looked familiar reminded me of Hever Castle- I visited it a couple of times when I was in secondary school.

    1. Me too, LG. I do have a few gothic touches in our home, but only small ones.

  7. Hi Patsy - one I recognise as Dover Castle .. were any of them ones I posted about in the Challenge? I did do Dover, Lullingstone and Scotney ... then Herstmonceux near where I live in Sussex ...

Photos are great - glad you had a good few days away - though the camper van and thunderstorms seems a little dogdy - and the cliff with the winds!

    Cheers Hilary

    1. Hilary, we went to Calshot, Porchester, Brownsea, Dover, Walmer, Deal, Rochester, Upnor and Hever. We plan to visit several places in Sussex - will let you know in case we'll be near you on a convenient day and can say hello in person.

The storms sounded dramatic and the van wobbled a little, but we weren't in any kind of danger.

    2. Hi Patsy .. that's where the camper van comes in handy doesn't it? what a wonderful trip you had .. and definitely when you do your Sussex trip - let me know and I'd love to meet up ..

Obviously you're safe - so great the van provided sufficient protection ...

      Cheers for now - Hilary

  8. Lovely castles and beautiful pictures. Glad you enjoyed a few days away, although I see you are never far from your writing. Thanks for commenting on Helen Yendell's blog about the Random Word Short Story competition. I was thrilled to be short listed - next step a winner?!!

    1. I'm never far from my writing, Maggie. Actually, Deal Castle is likely to feature in one of my stories. It's an excellent place to kill someone.

Congrats again on your short listing! Sorry but I hadn't twigged that was you. Did like your story. For a minute I thought she was developing Stockholm syndrome and was glad that wasn't the case. Yes, keep going and I'm sure you'll be a winner soon. The standard of that comp was very high so there's no shame in not winning.
