Book of the Month

The winner of this monthly competition will have their self published novel reviewed in The Guardian. That's all you get, but I imagine the publicity would boost sales.

Do you read reviews? Or write them?

Would you like these three as your guardian angels?

  1. Sometimes I read a really good book or watch a great film (especially independent ones) which I haven't heard of or had positive reviews. It's a bit like the emperor's new clothes.
No, I wouldn't want the middle gargoyle as my guardian angel!

    1. The middle one is my favourite, Linda. Ok, maybe he does seem a touch manic, but the other two just look bored and disapproving.

  2. I bet a review there would help boost sales.

  3. I'd take the middle one...the other two look like they have too many issues. Just saying

    1. Yeah, I think he looks most fun, R Mac.

  4. I try to write reviews for what I read, but don't always get the job done. And not particularly, lol! The middle looks mean and the other two look...a bit out of breath? ;)

    1. I try to review things I enjoy reading, Leandra but if I can't do it straight away I do sometimes forget.

  5. I like to leave reviews, as they do make a difference I think. Also it's good to be honest and not just say it's amazing because you're friends with someone. They all look like they need to find angels of their own. Or they've been in the job too long and need a change:))

    1. I agree it's important to be honest in reviews. Better to say 'I quite liked this' and mean it than to make extravagant claims the book doesn't live up to.

  6. I ought to do more reviews, particularly for the stuff I like. But it's yet another thing I tend not to get around to.
I'd like my guardian angel to be able to move a little faster than stone. Come to think of it, maybe my guardian angel is weeping.

    1. Yours would have to be dragon shaped, Sheila!
