IWSG

It's time for another Insecure Writer's Support Group post. Last month I really was feeling insecure. More so than I let on in my post. That's because I wasn't writing. Not writing means not making any mistakes, not getting work criticised or rejected  - but it's not much fun and there's no chance of actually coming up with something good.

I'm writing again now. I'm making mistakes, my critique buddies are finding 'issues' and it's very likely at least some of the pieces I'm sending out will come back. I'm much happier.

How are things with you?

  1. Ahh I understand that feeling. Glad you're back to writing, enjoy those mistakes (if you have them). . . they're a good sign of things to come. :)

    1. Mistakes are easier to fix than blank pages, SK.

  2. Things are great since I stopped worrying about not being productive all the time. I write, crochet, draw when the mood takes me. You are sooooh productive Patsy, you put the rest of us to shame.

    1. I think it's possible to be so worried about nt doing enough that it slows us down, Maggie. Glad you don't have that problem.

  3. Thanks for sharing that Patsy. I seem to have got out of routine and, after receiving a rejection two minutes after pressing the submit button, I have been feeling insecure. However, I enjoy writing and I hope my writing is improving. Sorry to go on about myself, but it's hard to explain to non-writers.

    1. Yikes! Two minutes??? That probably means they already have enough or something like that rather than them not liking your writing. I can see why it'd make you feel insecure though. Hope you get a better response to the next sub.

Oh and don't worry about going on - that's what IWSG is all about. Sometimes we just need to tell someone who'll understand so we can get it off our chest.

  4. I'm telling the in-laws I'm working on a novel this summer, but I've been mostly writing little short stories. A form of procrastination, to be sure, but if I don't write at all, my wife quits speaking to me and the dog hides.

    1. Writing as procrastination from writing something else is just brilliant, Henry!

  5. I'm where you were last month. Not enough time to write, not enough drive in the small amount of time I do have. :-P
Glad you're back in the swing of things!

  6. I really enjoy writing. I can lose hours doing it, but I tell you, it just isn't working right lately. Dunno. That was at the root of my IWSG post this month. Hmm...

    1. I enjoy it too, worddreams but it certainly comes easier some days than others.

  7. I'm going through a strange period, lots of projects and ideas but can't get into the writing at the moment!

    1. As long as you're noting down the ideas and making non writing progress on the projects you should be fine, Rosemary. A change is as good as a rest and all that.

  8. I'm glad you're writing again, Patsy! Isn't it odd how writers can be insecure when their not writing, but happy when they are finding mistakes in their writing because it means they're working? We're silly creatures. :)

    1. In some ways we are silly, Chrys. Well I certainly am!

  9. Glad you're writing again! Nothing bad happens when you don't, but nothing good happens either.

  11. That's great how you're writing again! Life gets dull quickly without some kind of creative outlet like that...

    1. I distracted myself with gardening and cooking, Heather. Perhaps if I didn't like doing those things I'd get more writing done? Or maybe I'd just find other distractions.

    1. Ur hum*, it's TWO pages, Lizy! ;-)

I'll probably be insecure again sometime, but I'm not right now.

      *how do you spell that?

  14. Not writing is bad. I know, I didn't write yesterday and I'm blog commenting and blogging during what should have been my writing time today. (Bad girl, no doughnut!)

I'm glad you are writing again, and wish you the best of luck in your writing. 'Cause we all need more good stuff to read, otherwise we'd have to do our housework.
