May

Yes, I know it's November, but May is the theme of this short story competition that you may wish to enter (see what I did there?) You may not want to bother reading all the t&cs but I think you should. There's a bit about copyright that I think might just refer to the winner. I'm trying to find out.

The prize is a week's holiday in a Duchy of Cornwall manor house which sleeps up to eight. Make a good writing retreat, wouldn't it?

Here's a picture taken in my garden this May. It may, or may not, inspire you.

  1. Hi Patsy - I'd be happy to go to Cornwall .. and it would definitely make an excellent writing retreat ... lots of west country friends could join us too ...

Lovely poppy on a gloomy day .. still it is December .. cheers Hilary

  3. I had already looked at this, Patsy, and I was a bit concerned about copyright etc. Think I'll give it a miss!

  5. Thought I'd gone to sleep and missed Christmas! Thanks for the reminder that spring isn't that far away.

  6. @ Hilary - It could be a lot of fun, though we might not get much work done!

@ Alex - that does make it less of a good deal.

@ Rosemary - shame the rules aren't clearer on that point and that they've not responded to my query.

@ Mac - it is. They're easy to grow.

@ Chrys - I enjoy looking back over my garden photos on grey days.

@ Maggie - If I had the option I'd be tempted to hibernate over Christmas.

  7. Love the picture of the poppy, Patsy.

Sadly too many of these competitions want complete copyright, and stories have a lot more potential value nowadays, that few writers can afford to relinquish their rights- nor should they without a lot of thought first.

Patsy, I always find you get a better response to queries by contacting their social media pages...
