Tiro

A tiro (which can also be written as tyro) is a beginner or novice. Two or more are known as tiros.

I'm a tiro when it comes to wildlife photography, but fortunately this little bird hopped off instead of flying away, so I got some of it in focus. Anyone know what it is?

  1. This is such a beautiful little bird! Are you sure that you're just a "tiro wildlife photographer?" You really captured a stunning pose! Looking forward to finding out his identity! Happy Holidays!

  2. It looks like a siskin. A beautiful little bird a bit like a yellow sparrow in a way.

    1. Thanks. This was about sparrow sized and did have some yellowish feathers underneath, Rob but I've just looked up siskins and it's not quite the same.

    1. I'm not very good either, Alex. except for the ones which regularly visit our garden.

    1. I think he was, Mac. He hopped away whenever I moved closer and kept turning his head my way.

  6. A lot depends on when and where you saw it. The thin beak and pale 'eyebrow' stripe made me think it was some kind of warbler but most of them are only summer visitors in the UK. But looking through my bird book I've discovered that some chiffchaffs stay here in winter - and they have dark legs like your little bird.
    Have a look at this:

Whatever it is, it's very pretty!
    Merry Christmas!

    1. It was Scotland in late September, Linda. Could have been a summer visitor as there were still lots of swallows about.

Just looked it up and I think you're right.
