Monticule

A monticule is a small hill. Sounds rather friendly, doesn't it? The sort of place you'd walk up to enjoy a picnic involving ginger beer and home made cake. A monticule can also be a mini mound caused by a volcano.

Here's the view from a hill (quite a big one) I climbed up last summer. Recognise it?

Clue ... instead of climbing up, you could just swan about down the bottom.

  1. That's a new word for me. It does have a pleasant feel to it, doesn't it?

    1. It's a great clue if you already know the area, Mac. Otherwise it's probably no help at all.

  3. I've never heard that word before, Patsy - we live and learn! I've never been - but is the photo Swansea?

  4. If a monticule is a small hill, then what is a miniscule? Beautiful hill, and I would guess Swansea, but have never been.

  8. I think, Swanage, same as lovely Christine above. Smashing views, and monticule sounds like the name of the giant mole who created the hill.

    1. Monticule mole would make a lovely character for a children's book, Suzy. You've almost made me wish I wrote for children.

    1. You seem sceptical, Oscar. I know I make a lot of stuff, but I nearly always use real words to do it.

  11. In case anyone is desperate to know ... the building you can see in the centre is St Catherine's Chapel, Abbotsbury (where there's a hug swannery)
