Hydrochory

Hydrochory is passive dispersal by water. Plant seeds being carried downstream, fruit swept by tides and currents to a distant shore, writers drifting round a pool on a lilo, that sort of thing.

Can't imagine working that one into a short story.

Right, I'm off to buy a lilo. You'll find me floating in the River Tyne waiting for the ideas to flow downstream!

Oh go on, give it a try, Keith.

Better write in pencil then, Beatrice - if you get splashed the ink will run.

I was looking something else up, Frances and got distracted. Not the first time that's happened.

Excellent, Maggie!

FLORIDA is a hydrochory right now. It can stop raining any time it wants.

Does it work with letters on alphabet soup too?

Patsy said...

I should think it does, Christine.

Patsy said...

It's raining here too, Mac - but I suspect we're more used to it than you are!

Patsy said...

Shhh, don't give away all my plotting secrets, Lizy!

Well I knew it was something to do with water, Patsy.

I suppose it can be applied to messages in bottles too, which you could create a story from. :-)

A new word to add to my vocabulary - although I'm not sure where I'd use it!

Is it a verb or noun? I think I've done it once or twice, but don't tell anyone.

Bloomin' Valerian. They seed everywhere and all the seeds take. Why is it that weedseeds 'do' and lovingly nurtured plant seeds don't?

Rosemary Johnson said...

Well, I'm sure I'll manage that one into the next story!

Patsy said...

Absolutely, Carol!

Patsy said...

Downstream, Susan?

Patsy said...

Your secret is safe hear, Oscar.

I expect valerian would fail if we were desperate to grow it, Celia.

Patsy said...

Excellent, Charlie - I'm glad someone is up for the challenge. ;-)

Hydrochory us what we were hoping would happen to Bonnie's fleas when she went swimming in the river - no such luck!
