IWSG

It's time for the August Insecure Writer's Support Group post. Do think about joining if you're a writer who's either insecure, supportive or both.

This month I am feeling a bit insecure, but only in my non writing life. Something not good happened and we've had to change our plans for the rest of the year. I'm disappointed that much of our travelling will have to be postponed, but it does mean I've been able to get more writing done than planned. That side of my life is going very well - and being able to 'escape' into my stories is doing me a lot of good at the moment.

Do you ever find that even if writing can itself cause us concerns and frustrations it can also provide a welcome distraction or break from other issues?

  2. Sorry to hear you have had to change your plans this year, hope all sorts itself out. Best thing is to bury yourself in your stories and create a better life for your characters.

  5. I think writing is wonderful at every level. For me, that is entering a few competitions, helping to run our writing group and this autumn I shall be making an anthology of poetry for our group. I'm sorry to hear that your plans have had to change, but writing is always there to give us a purpose and distract us from real life. Hope everything turns out okay.

Good luck with the anthology, that sounds like an interesting project.

  6. Sorry for the not good happening. It does seem like there's a silver lining to most things, so at least the writing's going good!

  8. I hear you, Patsy. Hang in there. Writing has ALWAYS been my escape - from newborns, from house payments, from job search, from divorce, for retirement anxiety. It's the world I can control.

  11. Sometimes I find that "real world" problems get in the way of creativity, of writing, and I come up empty. Other times, it's my writing that saves me. :)

    1. I have found in the past that worries have stopped me writing, but increasingly I'm able to lose myself in the story, at least for a while.

  15. This is so very true, Patsy. For the past year and a half Inion and I have been going through some personal problems. My daughter had a bout with cancer. She's cancer free now but for a while there... We decided to take off a little bit and spend that time, writing. working on our books. and it really helped us through a dark time in our life. Writing is such a good venting tool as you rightly pointed out. No worries my dear, you'll get things sorted out and while you're working on them, I'm sure will come up with some tasty little pieces where your writing's concerned. Great post!!! ;)
