Travail

Travail, or travails, is a situation involving a lot of hard work or difficulty. Eg the travails of book promotion. Apparently just bunging up a link and hoping people will buy it isn't enough. (But I'm going to try that anyway.)

Here's where you can buy my book!

Travels is something different altogether - I hope if you have any trips planned they don't involve any travail.

The travails of book promotion put me off self-publishing. And I always travel with fingers crossed (not on the wine glass holding hand) in case of travel travails. May your travails be light, Patsy!

Wish just putting up a link worked.

I'm with Alex. And yet, traditional publishing doesn't seem to be much better in the marketing department. They still want you to do all the work. Except perhaps TP doesn't cost as much up front to the author... Good luck and congratulations!

Forgot to add, the word Travail comes from the French "to work" "Travailler"... interesting trivia!

Even much travail doesn't help me sell books. I think I'll take a break.

Not crossing the fingers of the hand holding the wine is a top tip, Christine!

Me too, Alex. I've just checked and I'm not no1 in the Amazon rankings so it seems it doesn't.

Maybe I should have said it's good or something?

You're right - it seems that a lot of marketing will be down to the author whichever route we take, Lisa.

Thanks for the extra trivia.

It's a tiring process, Oscar.

It was enough for me! Got it. :) And, yes, the travails of book promotion--I totally agree. Ugh.

Oh, thank you, Linda! Hope you enjoy it.
