Oh Zoe!

Here's a competition to write a children's picture book. (Just write it - you don't need to draw anything).

The prize is £500, plus the opportunity to have your book published. Anyone may enter and you can submit more than one entry. I'm definitely having a go at this one.

This is Ock. Do you think he'd make a good character for a children's book?

  1. I think Ock looks great! He seems to have musical feet... a sure fire winner!

    1. Musical feet would be a great attribute!

  2. I love his name, presuming he's a Scot?

Unsure about trying my hand at this one...have dabbled in Children's stories in a previous life. It was fun, but thinking I'm maybe too grown up now. :-) Have lost my sense of fun...oh and there's an idea for a story. Just like that!

  3. Incredibly, children's picture books are THE hardest thing to write. When I was starting out, I tried my hand at one. For about a year. With lots of children's authors to help me. Nope. No way to understand what appeals to kids. Wishing you and Ock great good luck!

    1. I believe you about them being difficult to write, Lexa. It's often assumed that what's easy to read must be easy to write, but I know that isn't always the case.

  4. Have you created Ock? He's got character already. Bound to be a winner.

    1. I have created him, Maggie - though he's not much more than a sketch and a few ideas at the moment.
