Host

Historically a host is a large number of people, or an army. In Christian religion it may be the consecrated bread used to represent the body of Jesus, or the heavenly host may refer to angels or perhaps other bible figures – although the heavenly host can also be used to mean the sun, moon and stars.

A host might be a person who has recieved a donated organ, or any living organism which carries a parasite or disease. The landord of a pub, compere of an event, or person who invites others into their home could all be described as hosts.

This week I'm co-hosting the Insecure Writer's Support Group along with J.H.Moncrief, Tonja Drecker, Chrys Fey and of course our Ninja Captain, Alex J. Cavanaugh. This organisation exists to support insecure writers (as you may have guessed!). This is done through blog posts on the first Wednesday of each month, where members share their anxieties, offer tips only avoiding such concerns and offer encouragement to those who are feeling insecure.

There's also a Facebook group, website and twitter account, so there's always someone available should you wish to ask a question, or recieve (or offer of course!) a word of reassurance.

To join, just click here and add yourself. It's free and all you're committed to is a posting once a month (you can drop out temporarily or leave completely any time.) There's an optional suggested question each time, so no need to worry about being stuck for a topic.

Have you hosted anything? Are you an insecure writer? Are you a member of, or considering joining the IWSG?

Oh, by the way (she drops casually into the conversation) would you like to download this short ebook myself and three friends have created? It's free!

And thanks for co-hosting this month!
We hosted friends for dinner last month. That's about all the hosting I do.

Love your definitions of a host. Thanks for co-hosting. Hope you have a great month.

Whenever I hear the word host, I associate it with aliens. I blame my overactive imagination. Glad you're not one! Thanks for co-hosting today.

I've hosted holiday parties. Does that count?

Thanks for serving as co-host this month!

I used to host a lot of gatherings at our house, but now, my hubby and I are perfectly content to simply enjoy each other. And the cats. Can't forget the cats. :)

Thanks for the e-book! I really liked your short rundown on co-hosting!

I've been a co-host of numerous blog hops, including the IWSG, and that one is a lot of work, so thank you. I've also hosted a baby shower, and family members into my home for meals or longer stays, which is even more work, but totally worth it.

Happy hosting! Sounds like you and your friends cooked up an early Christmas present. I'll check it out.

Thanks for co-hosting this month, and thanks for the lesson on the word host.
Thanks for the free ebook too.
Yes, I am a member and I have hosted before. It was so much fun. I hope I get the chance to do it again one day.

Thanks for co-hosting! I've been a member for several years now, and I love the community and the support everyone offers. I hosted once last year, and hope to again when I'm a bit more settled.

Thank you for co-hosting! I've hosted a couple of events with my young adult ministry. The biggest that I was in charge of was a talent show. I loved it.

I used to host large family dinners, but those duties have fallen to other family members now. And I've co-hosted IWSG once (and will happily do it again). And yes, I'm delighted to download your book. I am particularly intrigued since I just returned from Scotland and that's the location of one of the stories. Thanks for co-hosting today!

Interesting thoughts about hosting. I enjoyed my experience as an IWSG co-host--it gave me a behind-the-scenes look at the group and made me appreciate Alex's effort even more. Thank you for co-hosting!

Thanks for co-hosting! In 2001, I hosted a song tourney for my main estrogen Who list (now either defunct or devoid of any activity for many years). It was really fun, though a lot of hard work.

I've hosted a few things now and then in my life, but I've yet to co-host #IWSG even though I've been participating from the beginning--it's been going on for so many years now I forget how long it's been. Thank you for co-hosting.

Thank you for the round-about lead-in to HOSTING and the introduction to IWSG, which has long been a favorite resource and prod to write in my blog a minimum of once a month. Chris Feys blog brought a reminder about morning pages -- and your blog brought the unexpected gift of a collection of short stories. Thank you again. What a lovely way to get your stories out there. I'm already looking forward to reading these. That opening to 'mysterious stone' is a grabber! May you have a lovely year of writing ahead.

Got the book! Thanks for sharing. I've co-hosted IWSG and I love doing it. I like the idea of giving back, especially (and I know it sounds selfish) when I gain so much by being a part of this group. Thanks for co-hosting today, and I love all the different meanings to "host."

Thank you for the book! I look forward to reading it. I would love to host the holidays, but our family is massive and our house is small, so we go to one of my husband's siblings homes for Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve. This year I will be hosting a smaller Christmas Day dinner. Have a wonderful week, and thanks for hosting!

Pat Garcia said...

I personally think that the IWSG is the best place to be for a writer regardless of whether you're insecure or not. Thank you for co-hosting and I wish you a Merry Christmas.

Thanks for co-hosting! I have to admit that most of the things I've hosted have been real-life events. It's been a while, though.

I used to host Christmas dinner for 30, and Easter egg hunts for nearly that many. Nowadays, I let the younger host the even younger ;-) Thanks for hosting!

Thanks for co-hosting. Happy IWSG Day.

Liesbet said...

Who knew "host" is such a versatile word? I've been an IWSG co-host once and I'm sure another time will follow in the near future. As I don't have my own home, I usually am more of a guest than a host. That being said, we do hope to host a couple of friends for Christmas at our next house sit in San Diego. Thanks for co-hosting, and so nice to learn that you live (or travel) in a camper van as well! :-)

Thank you for co-hosting, Patsy. All the many co-hosts has been one of the reasons that our group remains vibrantly active. Oh, and also because our leader, Alex Cavanaugh is one smart dude, LOL. Blessings
