Go hot!

I've only just come across these competitions. Although there's only nine days left in which to write a poem or essay I thought it was still worth giving them a mention. They're free to enter and the prize fund is £5,000 – doesn't that make it worth giving up a few lunch breaks or TV programmes to make time to have a go?

The themes are 'Wandering' and 'Fiery Dust'.  That gives me a good excuse to share my love of wandering about in the camper van, and setting light to things. (Not generally at the same time, although we do have an anti-midge citronella candle.)

My book Firestarter isn't based on me though – honest!

Do you have any plans to travel or write this year? Or will you set the world alight in some other way?

Wow, that's a lot of money!

Thanks, Patsy! You're amazing how you come up with these writing contests. These would be a bit "heavy" for me though and would require an awful lot of thought, with not much time to enter. My travel and writing plans for this year? Can't afford to go too far, so hope to take another trip to Florida (just came back from spending Christmas over there), which is very close to the Bahamas. Then I plan on completing the writing of another book of short stories and another romantic suspense novel. Also, I will try to be more courageous about interviews! Had my first little one today, which I will post around my social media once it's online.

I'd enter that contest, but, once again, it wouldn't be fair to the rest of the competitors if I entered said contest. Yep, I'm as humble as ever.

I shall now duly share your post. All the best to you, Patsy.

@Alex – it's not bad.

@Fay – best of luck with the interviews. I find I'm sometimes nervous about things like that beforehand, but they're generally OK once they happen.

@Klahanie – very decent of you on both counts!

Happy New Year, to you and yours, Patsy. Why can't I find the competitions you're mentioning though? Good wishes Kate

Hi Patsy - yes as Alex says that's a good prize. Love your photos ... I'm sure I'll be wandering, but not far - done that for a while ... Have a great year ahead - writing in your travelling studio - cheers Hilary
