Fatalism can mean either a submissive attitude to events as being inevitable, or the belief that everything is predetermined and that we have no influence over anything which may happen. A
fatalist is a person who thinks
fatalistically.
I'm not a
fatalist. Some things are out of our control, and luck plays a part, but I believe that it's generally possible for us to influence the future.
What about you?

I really believe our attitude can influence the way our future goes :-) xx
There's a lot we can still control.
I'm with you on this. We can't control everything that happens to us, of course, but we can control our responses, which can influence our future for good or ill.
I believe in Karma (the German Sheppard). You don't want to be bit by Karma.
Some things will happen despite what you do. Some will happen because of what you do.
I use Cosmic Ordering. I have done all my life but didn't realise what I was doing until I read about it ten years ago. I know lots of people think it's silly but it works for me and I believe that for most of the time if you think something will happen it will, and if you think it won't, it won't.
I'm on the fence with this one. Some things need one's input and others are best left to Fate.
It can with some things I think, Sue.
That's what I think too, Linda - we have some control over howwe react to a situation even if we can't change what actually happens.
No, Mac. I don't.
Excellent way of putting it, Bernadette.
I'm not really sure what Cosmic Ordering is, Lynne - but if it works for you then t makes sense to keep doing it.
We can each only do so much, Lizy.
Think I'm a bit of a mixture of beliefs on this one - but ultimately, I'm an optimist!
I think you can worry yourself into a situation. The mind can clearly take control. So positive thoughts go a long way.
A good way to be, Rosemary.
If we continually think negative thoughts we're more likely to be aware of problems than opportunities I suspect, Maggie.
Very much the same as you Patsy, I try to think positively all the time, even if things are looking bleak, I try to find the good things and focus on them.
The Law of Inevitability, either way you travel through life.
I think it really can help a bit, Maria.
I've looked it up now. Can't say I'm totally convinced but I can see cases where it could work. Eg if we think we'll never be published so don't try then we won't. If we're sure we will so do our best work and send it out then our chances are much better! We need to take action though, not just hope for the best, I think.
I don't think everything is already worked out, Oscar - but I believe some things are inevitable ... death, taxes, that no chocolate brought into the house will last more than a few hours.
I read my horoscope most days. If it predicts a good day I say, 'Great, the stars are on my side, everything's going to be fine.' But if the astrologer forsees problems and difficulties I say, 'What a load of rubbish!' and set out to prove him or her wrong.
I think it's called positive thinking. :)
It's nice to see it written down that we're going to have a good day, Linda, even if we don't believe the writer has a clue.
