Doesn't supermundane sound soooo boring? Actually it means out of this world or superior to earthly things. And that makes it jolly difficult to illustrate.
This is Arbroath Abbey. We enjoyed our visit there very much - definitely closer to super than to mundane.
Arbroath...y'all have such cool names
ReplyDeleteWe do, Mac.
DeleteIt does sound like an oxymoron.
ReplyDeleteI know - I'm sure it must have caught someone out.
DeleteWhat a great word! Knowing the meaning makes its origins clear, but I'd have fallen into the trap of your first thought.
ReplyDeleteYes, once we know what it means, it does make sense.
DeleteI thought "supermundane" was an ultra boring superhero.
ReplyDeleteGary :)
They'd be fun to write!
DeleteI love a ruined abbey - have you been to the one in Melrose, Patsy?
ReplyDeleteNot yet, Kate. We're back up to Scotland this year, so we might visit then. Haven't planned all our route yet.
DeleteIt amazes me how those old walls keep standing. Never mundane but could be supermundane.
ReplyDeleteThey were built to last, Oscar!
DeleteHi Patsy,
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting about this today...I have an upcoming trip to UK so I'm making notes!
Oh, when and where are you visiting, Nas?
