A conflagration is a great and destructive fire. It feels like there should be more to it than that, but apparently there isn't.
I quite like setting fire to things, but only in a small and controlled manner. Not it the manner of a conflagration nor as happens in my novel Firestarter.
If you like setting things on fire, then I like standing there with a hose. (Yes, my wife says I am extremely paranoid when it comes to fires.)
ReplyDeleteGreat word! I guess we've all got a little bit of a pyro in us:)
ReplyDeleteHi Patsy - that's the word I used for Eastbourne pier going up in smoke a few years ago ... it certainly conflated! Still hasn't been reinstated ... but is as repaired as it can be ... but things might happen while I'm away - cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteIn 1951 I had the pleasure(?) of witnessing and helping to fight a conflagration. Near Hickam Air Force Base on Oahu, Hawaii, old civilian barrack-type housing went up in flames. Five or six of my buddies saw the smoke and we hurried to see what was burning. There were a couple of fire trucks unrolling the hoses and we joined in with willing and helping hands. The old two-story wooden buildings were too dry and there wasn't much saved. We never found out how it started, but it was an exciting day in paradise..
ReplyDeleteIt’s a great word and Intend to use it all the time now!
