To misremember is to remember incorrectly or imperfectly, or to forget. I misremember if I've shown you these pictures before ...

Temporary residency?

Thanks to Beatrice Charles for passing on the details of this competition from the Scottish book trust.  Entry is quite restricted. As Beatrice puts it...

You almost qualify for this one:

Live in Scotland (do camper vans count?)
Over 40 (just)
Not yet published (oops, not for you then)

Rats. Almost, but not quite! Such a shame as the prize is excellent - nine months of mentoring, a two week retreat and £2,000.

Ah well, I've had the retreat part already.

If you really do qualify, don't think too long before applying - you only have a couple of days.

Another meet-up

My recent travels took me to Thurso, where I met up with fellow womag writer Andrea Wotherspoon.

We talked a lot (more about that over on the womag blog) and I had a piece of cake so huge I couldn't (quite) eat it all.

I burned off some of the calories with a good long walk around the area which inspires some of Andrea's writing.

Warning - we're still travelling. I could be in your area next ...

Zymology is the scientific study of fermentation.

I don't do this, but I do sometimes study the results in a very unscientific way.

Thanks to Anne Rainbow for passing on the details of this opportunity.

Mslexia are looking for poems or stories about heinous or illegal acts - but as usual they only want work by women writers. They pay £25.

I'm nowhere near as saintly as Cuthbert, but Anne obviously has a good opinion of me as she reckons this would be a challenge...

Oh, maybe she was referring to keeping the word count down to 2,200 words?

Ungulate means hoofed. An ungulate is a hoofed animal - and a good enough excuse for gratuitous cute animal pictures.

We've been having such a good time travelling round in the van this last couple of months, that it seems wrong to talk about insecurities, but it's the first Wednesday of the month and time for my Insecure Writer's Support Group post.

This month's question is 'How do you find the time to write in your busy day?'

For me this one isn't too tricky as I now write full time, but I do remember having to fit in writing around the day job. The thing which helped the most was not turning on the TV. I still rarely watch and I'm not convinced I'm missing out to any great extent. Do you watch TV? If you do, is it more important to you than your writing, or could you switch it off and write instead?

I do have one concern - that after this amazing trip I'll have trouble returning to reality.

But I am a fiction writer - could that mean that I don't have to? (please say yes)
